Training Objective: The course is intended as an introductory course for environmental health professionals with a focus on all things water. The purpose of this course is to provide an overview of water well construction. The course will include hydrogeology, well classifications, well construction basics, small public water system requirements, and domestic water quality.

Cost: $50.00.  A REHS Continuing Education Contact Hours Certificate will be sent to you after a course evaluation is submitted.

David Alaniz is a Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) and Program Manager with San Bernardino County Environmental Health Services. He oversees a diverse portfolio of regulatory programs including well permitting, plan check, the Local Primacy Agency (LPA) for drinking water systems, Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems (OWTS), and the Local Enforcement Agency (LEA) for solid waste.

With nearly a decade of experience in environmental health, David has served in multiple leadership roles and works closely with state agencies, planners, and water system operators to protect public health and groundwater quality. He is also the co-chair of the statewide Water Well Technical Advisory Committee along with Ms. Megan Floyd and serves as a Planning Commissioner for the City of Grand Terrace.

Melissa Palomino is currently a Supervising Environmental Health Specialist that has been employed with Merced County Division of Environment Health for the past six years. She graduated from California State University, Stanislaus with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biological Sciences with a focus in molecular and microbial biology. After college she worked in a private industry microbiology and chemistry lab where she was first exposed to environmental health. After a few years at the lab, she began her career with Merced County in the Hazardous Materials Unit where she developed a strong foundation in environmental compliance and safety. Melissa currently supervises the Land and Water Unit overseeing programs related to groundwater protection, onsite wastewater treatment systems, solid waste Local Enforcement Agency (LEA), and land use planning.

Outside or work, Melissa enjoys travelling and spending quality time with family and friends.

Megan Floyd graduated from Sacramento State in 2010 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Microbiology. She currently the Water Protection Supervisor for Sacramento County Environmental Management Department where she oversees wells, small water systems, onsite wastewater treatment systems, land use, and the local oversite program. She has also worked in consumer protection, recreational health, and CUPA. She is a past president of the California Environmental Health Association (CEHA), and sits on various CCDEH committees.

She has a deep love for her two teenagers, working out, all things pink glitter and Starbucks
